Vietnamese fashion designer Nguyen Minh Cong has successfully marked his ten-year career milestone with the sensational exhibition and fashion show, “Miet Cu Lao”. This event, which opened on October 15th at the Southern Women\u2019s Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, serves as a deeply personal tribute to his Mekong Delta roots and childhood memories.<\/p>\n

“Mi\u1ec7t C\u00f9 Lao” is a unique, multisensory cultural project that elevates Southern Vietnamese folk cakes (Banh Dan Gian Nam Bo<\/i>) into spectacular haute couture. The collection of 20 sophisticated designs is an evolution of his 2021 mini-fashion collection, which previously set a national record. These concepts have now been realized into full-scale, wearable masterpieces that seamlessly merge cultural heritage with modern aesthetics.<\/p>\n

The exhibition\u2019s grand opening featured an exclusive show where seven representative pieces were showcased by a lineup of Vietnam\u2019s top beauty queens and supermodels. Each garment is a detailed, handcrafted interpretation of a specific cake. Highlights included the voluminous, golden gown symbolizing “Banh Xeo” (Vietnamese Sizzling Cake) and the sleek dress adorned with embellishments for the “Banh Khot” (Mini Savory Pancakes).<\/p>\n

Miss Nguyen Ngoc Kieu Duy shone in the \u201cB\u00e1nh Lot\u201d gown, a design dominated by white and pale blue tones where individual strands of the namesake noodle-like cake were painstakingly hand-beaded. Following this, Vice Miss Le Nguyen Ngoc Hang impressed audiences with the \u201cBanh \u0110uc Gan\u201d dress, which utilized complex pleating and diverse color coordination to create a multi-layered, visually striking effect, mimicking the cake’s appearance.<\/p>\n

Youthful energy was brought by Vice Miss Nguyen Le Ngoc Thao in the \u201cBanh Kep Trai Tim\u201d (Heart Waffle Cake). Another breathtaking garment was the \u201cMut Dua\u201d (Coconut Jam) dress, modeled by Vice Miss Pham Ngoc Phuong Anh. Nguyen Minh Cong shared that he hopes visitors “will not only admire the clothes but also feel the story, the spirit, and the love that I have poured into every design.”<\/p>\n
