American Airlines is revising its current mask requirement to comply with CDC and Transportation Security Administration guidelines and a White House executive order on coronavirus (COVID-19) safety while flight.<\/p>\n

Beginning Wednesday, the United States government will require masks<\/a> to be worn on public transit, including flights and airports.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur mask requirement has been and will continue to be a vital component of our overall commitment to safeguard our customers’ and team members’ health and well-being during the pandemic,\u201d stated David Seymour, American’s Chief Operating Officer.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis government obligation will give further support to our crew members who are actively enforcing our policy and bolstering air travel safety during COVID-19.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n

As previously stated, passengers must wear masks during their travel, both at the airport and onboard the airplane. Children under the age of two will remain exempt from the obligation to wear a mask.<\/p>\n

American will begin requiring customers with disabilities who are unable to wear a mask to inform the airline’s Special Assistance team at least 72 hours ahead of departure to obtain an exception from the rule on Feb. 2, 2021. Exemptions will need documentation from a licensed health care professional, as well as confirmation of a negative COVID-19 test performed within three calendar days of departure or proof of COVID-19 recovery. Additionally, American will revise its criteria on approved mask styles to include bandanas and gaiters as prohibited items.<\/p>\n

Individuals who refuse to wear a mask in accordance with US government regulations may be refused to board, removed from the flight, or subject to federal law fines, in addition to being prohibited from future travel<\/a> with Americans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
