All\u00a0private clinics in Ho Chi Minh City have been ordered to close while local hospitals no longer allow visitors of the sick in a bid to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The bans came into effect on Monday, March 30, following an urgent dispatch sent by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health to all hospitals in the city, the municipal Center for Disease Control, and districts\u2019 medical centers and facilities on the same evening.<\/p>\n

According to the document, all leaders of medical establishments are tasked with reviewing and monitoring patients, visitors of the sick, guests, and units and individuals involved in the provision of non-medical services at their institutioms such as sanitation, security, laundry, catering, and retailing.<\/p>\n

Each sick person is allowed to be\u00a0accompanied by only one family member to\u00a0look after and\u00a0provide them with\u00a0emotional support.<\/p>\n

Admission of new inpatients\u00a0should be reconsidered, the health department said.<\/p>\n

In addition, these establishments\u00a0are asked to\u00a0limit the number of entrances and exits, as well as notify patients and their family members about the ban\u00a0on patients\u2019 visitors.<\/p>\n

The municipal Department of Health requested\u00a0that\u00a0hospitals\u00a0keep\u00a0track\u00a0of patients\u2019 family members\u00a0who are present at their infirmaries, and\u00a0collect\u00a0health declaration for use in epidemiological investigations.<\/p>\n

When a COVID-19 infection case\u00a0that\u00a0is not an outpatient or medical employee\u00a0is detected in a hospital setting,\u00a0it must be promptly reported\u00a0to the municipal health department and\u00a0the entire\u00a0ward, including patients,\u00a0patients\u2019\u00a0visitors, and medical employees, must be isolated.<\/p>\n

A list\u00a0of people\u00a0who have been\u00a0in close contact with the infection\u00a0is to be swiftly compiled while the affected infirmary must close its doors to\u00a0new patients.<\/p>\n

If cross\u00a0infection\u00a0occurs in a hospital, that institution has\u00a0to immediately stop\u00a0admitting new patients, except\u00a0in\u00a0emergency cases, as well as isolate the entire hospital. The\u00a0treatment area for\u00a0severe patients\u00a0must\u00a0be placed in absolute isolation.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, all cosmetic surgery, physiotherapy and rehabilitation establishments operating at polyclinics and hospitals have been\u00a0temporarily suspended from Monday, except\u00a0in cases of\u00a0emergency.\u00a0The ban also applies to\u00a0all private clinics.<\/p>\n

The suspension is in place as Ho Chi Minh City chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong told an online meeting on COVID-19 prevention and control on Monday that the complicated developments\u00a0at Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi,\u00a0to which\u00a0at least\u00a033 COVID-19\u00a0infection cases can be traced<\/strong>, is a lesson for health facilities in the southern metropolis.<\/p>\n

Ho Chi Minh City has recorded 47 cases of COVID-19 infections so far, of which ten have recovered.<\/p>\n

Currently, five COVID-19 patients in the city have tested negative for the virus at least twice, while the remaining cases are being quarantined and treated in stable health.<\/p>\n

Nationwide, there have been\u00a0204 infections confirmed<\/strong>, with 55 having\u00a0been discharged from the hospital free of the virus as of Monday.<\/p>\n

No death related to the disease has been recorded in Vietnam to date.<\/p>\n
