Michelle Obama and Barack Obama may no longer be the actual First Couple of the United States, but they are still out here making adorable comments about each other, maintaining their status as First Couple of our hearts.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, the former FLOTUS sat down with her pal Oprah Winfrey as the guest during the New York leg of Winfrey’s “2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus Tour.” Among the many topics the pair discussed was how the Michelle and Barack’s relationship has evolved since leaving the White House and sending their two daughters, Malia and Sasha, off to college.<\/p>\n

\u201cParenting takes up a lot of emotional space \u2026 I put a lot of time and energy into parenting these girls but right now we are trying to make their lives normal\u2014so that means weekends were a pain,\u201d she said, per People. \u201cWe had to worry about what parties they were going to, whether there was alcohol, I had to know who the parents were, so every weekend for me was hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd they\u2019re gone, thank God,\u201d she joked, noting “all that energy I can now place back on me and spending time figuring out my next chapter, how I want to spend the rest of my life.\u201d That translates to “more emotional time, emotional energy” for her relationship with her husband. “It\u2019s just me and him and [the family dogs] Bo and Sunny and dinner. And they don\u2019t talk, the dogs,\u201d Obama said. Luckily, that renewed relationship focus has been a good thing. She said they are \u201ccoming back to this point where we see each other again,\u201d and added, \u201cNow I can look at him and recognize my husband, he\u2019s still the man I fell in love with.\u201d<\/p>\n

That love is never more apparent than when the couple share anniversary messages for each other on social media. “Like the Beatles said: It\u2019s getting better all the time. Thanks, babe, for 27 amazing years,” the former President wrote recently, turning us all into human heart eye emojis.<\/p>\n

Her’s was equally awwwwwwww-inducing. “27 years ago, this guy promised me a life full of adventure,” she wrote. “I\u2019d say he\u2019s delivered. Here\u2019s to our next chapter of becoming empty nesters and discovering what\u2019s next\u2014while still feeling the magic that brought us together all those years ago. Happy anniversary, Barack. ????”<\/p>\n
