She kicked things off on the VMAs \u201cred carpet\u201d with a Sandy-from-Spongebob<\/em>-esque helmet. She then took the stage several times to accept awards, wearing stunning masks each time. She also wore a mask during her performance of \u201c911,\u201d\u00a0\u201cRain on Me\u201d\u00a0(with Ariana Grande), and \u201cStupid Love.\u201d Take a look at them for yourself, below. All the awards Gaga won at the MTV VMAs 2020 were for her and Ariana Grande\u2019s song, \u201cRain on Me,\u201d which is all about dancing through your pain. The two singers are now dear friends, but Gaga admits she was hesitant about befriending Grande after they recorded the song.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was so persistent,\u201d Gaga\u00a0told Zane Lowe of Apple Beats 1. \u201cShe would try over and over again to be friends with me. And I was too ashamed to hang out with her because I didn\u2019t want to project all of this negativity onto something that was healing and so beautiful. Eventually she called me on my shit. She was, like \u2018You\u2019re hiding.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018I am hiding. I\u2019m totally hiding.\u2019 And then this friendship blossomed.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Grande\u2019s take on the start of their friendship: \u201cOne time\u2026I met a woman who knew pain the same way I did\u2026who cried as much as I did, drank as much wine as I did, ate as much pasta as I did, and whose heart was bigger than her whole body.Sshe immediately felt like a sister to me,\u201d Grande\u00a0tweeted about her collaboration\u00a0with Gaga back in May. \u201cShe then held my hand and invited me into the beautiful world of chromatica, and together we got to express how beautiful and healing it feels to mothafuckinnnn cry!
