A Gift From Heaven: The only Vietnamese film hit American theaters this Lunar New Year

This Lunar New Year 2026, the Vietnamese community in North America is in for a special spiritual treat at international cinema chains. Moving away from typical action thrillers or horror films, “A Gift from Heaven”—the only Vietnamese family drama representative—will officially make its debut to overseas audiences.

On February 11th, a premiere event hosted by Tram Huong Nguyen took place in a warm yet sophisticated atmosphere. This event serves as the opening shot for Vietnamese cinema’s presence in the U.S. market for the new year.

Crafted by director Le Thanh Son and Bluebells Studio, the film is expected to create a new sensation. With distribution by Mockingbird Pictures US, “A Gift from Heaven” will officially hit theaters on February 20, 2026 (the 4th day of the Lunar New Year) at major global chains including AMC, Regal, and Cinemark.

The biggest highlight keeping audiences on the edge of their seats is the reunion of the “golden couple,” Tuan Tran and Phuong Anh Dao. After moving millions to tears in the blockbuster “MAI” (Tet 2024), the duo returns with a completely fresh dynamic: younger, more humorous, yet deeper and more mature.

“A Gift from Heaven” is a gentle symphony of three elements: Family, Comedy, and Romance. The story revolves around Ngoc (Phuong Anh Dao)—a modern, strong single mother. She has a bright young son named To, conceived through artificial insemination.

To escape the pressures of her past, Ngoc takes To to a peaceful coastal area for a “change of scenery.” There, fate arranges a run-in with Hong (Tuan Tran)—a free-spirited, liberal, and passionate fisherman. Ironically, Hong happens to be the sperm donor from years ago, indirectly responsible for little To’s existence.

This “uninvited” encounter thrusts the trio into a series of bittersweet situations. Amidst conflicts, moments of tension, and hearty laughter by the shore, a major question arises: Is this “heaven-sent” father a priceless gift of fate, or merely a cruel prank that life has played on Ngoc?

Amidst the bustling atmosphere of Tet far from home, “A Gift from Heaven” is more than just entertainment. It is a cultural bridge and a reminder of the value of family and forgiveness. With stunning cinematography of Vietnam’s coastlines and a relatable story, the film promises to soothe the homesickness of those living abroad.
