Foreign newspapers praised Vietnam as a bright star in Asia

Illume – Vietnam has achieved great success in the foreign and economic policies, diversified the role and actively integrated into the world in recent years.

That is the assessment of writer Leo Giosuè in an editorial published in the Israel Jerusalem Post on August 30.

In the article, the author mentions that Vietnam celebrates the National Day (September 2) and the 75th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19). The author praises the Vietnamese people for succeeding with great victories in the economic reform called Doi Moi.

Leo Giosuè said that diplomacy has become an important front of Vietnam in peacetime and has made a great contribution to maintaining and ensuring a peaceful environment, creating an international environment conducive to the work of building and defending the country, enhancing the country’s status and reputation globally.

The author points out that Vietnam has established a network of 30 strategic and comprehensive partners, participating in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTTP). The world’s first new-generation FTA has helped Vietnam’s export quotas to member countries like Japan, Canada and Mexico increase sharply compared to 2018.

In 2019, Vietnam signed the Vietnam – European Union Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Investment Protection Agreement with the EU (EVIPA), and completed negotiations for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

2020 is also an important year for Vietnam’s foreign affairs, especially in the implementation of multilateral diplomacy. Vietnam assumed the ASEAN Chairmanship and was a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the term 2020-2021, holding two responsibilities at the same time for the first time.

Vietnam has received much acclaim from the international community for its quick and effective response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although also affected by the global economic recession, Vietnam’s recovery prospects are very positive and can be said to be the brightest among Asian countries.

The author of the article on the Jerusalem Post said that the 5% growth rate set by the Vietnamese Government in 2020 is very impressive considering the economic picture of Asia. If the target is achieved, Vietnam will defend its position as the fastest growing economy in Southeast Asia, as well as being the first country in the region to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. Leo Giosuè quoted the World Bank (WB) saying that strong economic foundations will allow Vietnam to grow again in 2021, if the pandemic is well controlled both domestically and globally.
