Found the Indonesian black box plane crashed into the sea

According to the AP, it is not clear whether this black box is the flight data recording device or the cockpit recorder.

The TV station showed a group of divers on a pontoon boat with a large white barrel in a black box facing the port of Jakarta. It will be handed over to the National Transportation Safety Committee of Indonesia (NTSC), which oversees the investigation of the accident.

Investigators will recover information from the black box to determine the cause of the plane of Sriwijaya Air (Indonesia) in crash.

The Boeing 737-500 plunged into the sea in heavy rain shortly after takeoff in the capital Jakarta on January 9. The Indonesian naval ship picked up a signal emanating from two black boxes. Navy Admiral Yudo Margono said they were buried in mud on the sea floor, above the wrecks. According to Margono, at least 160 divers were mobilized on January 12 to search for two black boxes.

More than 3,600 rescuers, 13 helicopters, 54 large boats and 20 small boats search the area north of the capital Jakarta. They found some debris believed to have belonged to the ill-fated Boeing 737-500 with human body parts at a depth of 23 meters.

So far, the search force has sent 74 bags of human organs to forensic examiners. The first victim identified was the flight attendant Okky Bisma, 29 years old.

His wife Bisma, Aldha Refa – also a hostess of Sriwijaya Air, shared her pain on social networks Instagram: “My husband is a lovely, devout, and extremely kind man. Rest in peace.”

Family members of the passengers and crew of the Boeing 737-500 in distress provided the DNA test sample, which is expected to have results in 4-8 days. National Police spokesman Rusdi Hartono said they received about 53 DNA samples but still needed more, especially from the victim’s parents and children.

NTSC said the US National Transportation Safety Committee will participate in the investigation of the accident. NTSC Soerjanto President Tjahjono has ruled out the possibility of the plane crashing in mid-air.

Sriwijaya Air had only a few minor safety problems in the past. In 2008, a plane of this airline crashed out of the runway upon landing, killing one person.
