How Does Sitting Impact The Body?

Sitting impacts the body because students and office employees spend a lot of time in a sitting posture, even during the epidemic period, we still spend most of our time working and using computers. So I also wonder whether sitting too much has any impact on health?

According to Dr. James Levine, head of the Obesity Solutions Initiative in the state of Arizona, USA, sitting is more hazardous than smoking, killing more people than HIV. Sitting a lot and being sedentary impairs blood circulation and damages organs in the body. The particular consequences of this are:

1/ Increase the incidence of diabetes

2/ Damage to your back: Sitting for too long has a significant effect on your back, neck, and spine muscles. Sitting impacts the body whether you sit in a comfortable posture or locate the perfect chair,  your back will ache if you sit for a long time, so get up and walk around for a minute or two every half hour.

3/ Leads to varicose veins: Sitting for too long may cause blood to pool in the legs. This puts additional pressure in your veins producing varicose veins. This is generally not serious but may be unpleasant.

4/ Counteracts the benefits of exercise: Even exercising 7 hours a week – much more than the 2 – 3 hours suggested – it may counteract the effects of prolonged sitting within 7 hours.

5/ Cancer risk: Sitting for extended periods of time may raise the risk of colon, endometrial, or lung cancer. The more time you spend sitting, the greater your risk of being ill. Additionally, older women who sit for extended periods of time without moving have a greater risk of breast cancer.

6/ Suffering from a heart attack: Despite having the same food and lifestyle, individuals who sit for most of the day have an elevated risk of heart disease double the price of standing ones.
