Discovering a great mascara is always a cause for celebration, especially when it adds volume without leaving any clumps behind. As a beauty writer, I’ve tested hundreds of mascaras, and while I’ve fallen in love with a number of them over the years, the Perfect Strokes Universal Volumizing Mascara (Buy It, $20, sephora.com) from Rare Beauty has captured my heart completely and completely.

This year, the Selena Gomez-founded beauty brand debuted a number of successful products, including a weightless cream blush that has quickly become one of my daily makeup essentials. The vegan, paraben-free formula of Rare Beauty’s mascara has now been added to my must-haves list because it only took a single coat to completely transform my lashes from limp to luscious.

I put this mascara to the ultimate test by trying it out for the first time on a hot, sticky summer day in the middle of nowhere. When I first started out, I only applied one coat to each of my lashes, but I quickly realized how much I enjoyed the seamless application. I was able to apply my eye makeup quickly and easily because I used a brush that was designed to hug each individual lash. This meant that there was no tugging or maneuvering required to achieve a clump-free finished product.

Despite the fact that Rare Beauty created the mascara with all lash types in mind, I find that my lashes, both in terms of appearance and length, are generally pretty ordinary in appearance and length. Perfect Strokes, on the other hand, make my lashes appear fuller, longer, and more pronounced. Even with the scorching summer heat and a full day of wear, that flawless appearance only began to deteriorate when I removed my makeup with makeup remover at the end of the day.

It is the mascaras that do not require much time and effort to apply that are my favorites. Clumps, leftover product residue that eventually makes its way to my undereyes, and a brush that requires artistic precision in order to see results are all things I don’t want to deal with. Rare Beauty’s mascara, like so many of the company’s products, makes applying eye makeup a breeze. This mascara is perfect for finishing off an entire glam routine or for wearing on its own when I only want a hint of makeup. It’s easy to use and produces results in seconds. As an aside, Kristen Bell is a fan of vegan mascaras such as Rare Beauty’s, which you can find here.)

You can give it a shot for yourself by purchasing a tube of Rare Beauty’s mascara from Sephora right now.
