Miley Cyrus’s Flight Suit Is Designed by South Africa’s Most Cool Label

To say Miley Cyrus has had a hectic few days would be an understatement. Cyrus has been named the new face of Gucci in less than a week, performed at 2021’s first major festival, Lollapolooza, and serenaded a fortunate throng at a private Hamptons event over the weekend.

That much enthusiasm (and travel) would be exhausting for most people, but Cyrus made it appear effortless with her numerous social media posts. Though Cyrus shared glimpses of her performance clothing online, including a stunning bespoke jumpsuit designed by Alessandro Michele for her Lollapalooza act, Cyrus’ most fascinating fashion decision occurred during her leisure.

Miley Cyrus tweeted a photograph of herself resting on her private aircraft en route to New York, wearing a piece from Thebe Magugu’s spring 2022 menswear show, named Doublethink. The collection, which made its premiere last month in Florence, was the South African designer’s first step into menswear. Magugu, the 2019 LVMH award winner, produces clothing that is not only gorgeous but also tells a narrative. His concept for spring was sparked by writer Mandy Wiener’s 2020 book Whistleblowers, which profiles the unsung heroes who risked their lives to expose corruption and fraud in the nation’s governmental and financial structures. Magugu interpreted this as unusual tailoring and Western clothing that defied masculine power and dominance stereotypes.

Magugu’s work makes sense; Cyrus is an artist who has always valued the subversive. She and stylist Bradley Kenneth opted for his “Red Strappy” suit, which has a crimson blazer and matching pants that are tailored to perfection and complemented with a mint-green necktie worn casually as a scarf. Miley Cyrus looked well at home resting in Magugu’s designs, dressed in Isabel Marant sunglasses and white cowboy boots that emphasized the outfit’s old West connections.
