Nearly 50% of hospital beds in Italy are for patients with COVID-19

Italy is currently grappling with the outbreak of COVID-19 again, with concerns about the possibility of a new crisis due to overcrowding of the national health system. As of November 9, 49% of beds in Italy are for patients with COVID-19, which is higher than the warning threshold set by the Ministry of Health of this country.

Like in the first outbreak, the Lombardy region was once again at the heart of the COVID-19 outbreak in Italy. Hospitals here and the neighboring Piedmont region had to close surgical, pediatric and geriatric departments to make room for COVID patients.

One of the biggest challenges facing doctors and doctors is their ability to diagnose and test diseases.

Along with overcrowding, hospitals in Italy also face a shortage of medical staff, especially anesthetists for special care units.

Currently, Italy records nearly 1 million COVID-19 infections with more than 41,700 deaths.
