Room to Read is an international NGO (headquartered in the US) operating in the field of educational support for children with the belief that the world changes when children go to school.
RtR works with governments, local communities, and partner organizations to help elementary school students become independent readers and help girls complete high school and equip them with the life skills they need. make decisions about important issues in life.
In Vietnam, RtR has been present since 2001 with two main programs, the Program to support language development for primary school students and the Program to support education for girls, operating in 34 provinces and cities.
Room to Read‘s library program’s goal is to help children develop reading habits, along with developing the reading skills to become independent readers. The program design is based on the theory of change in which there are 6 closely related factors that are
(1) reading environment
(2) reading material
(3) reading time
(4) capacity building for partners
(5) family and community involvement
(6) research, monitoring and evaluation.
In which reading environment, reading material, and reading time are necessary factors that directly affect the development of reading habits; Partnership capacity building, family and community involvement, research, monitoring and evaluation are all supporting factors to ensure program goals and sustainability.
