Since the beginning of November, seven cargo workers and their close contacts at Shanghai Pudong International Airport have been identified as infected with Covid-19, of which 2 cases were confirmed on the night of November 22.
In order to prevent the epidemic, the Shanghai authorities have ordered all staff at the airport to test Covid-19. A temporary test site is also located on the 2nd floor of a garage.
Pictures and videos appeared on Chinese social media showing hundreds of people crowded inside the garage. The people in protective gear, trying to stabilize the crowd, were trying to rush forward. However, the chaos quickly subsided before midnight. Photos posted by police on China’s Weibo social network showed people in line to wait for tests.
As of the morning of November 23, 17,719 test samples were collected, of which 11,544 were examined. All are negative.
The quick handling of the chaos and restoration of order showed the determination and willingness of the Chinese authorities to deal with the Covid-19 outbreak. The Chinese approach described by CNN is in stark contrast to that in the US, which is facing the worst wave of Covid-19 outbreaks. With more than 100,000 new cases of Covid-19 every day, tracking the virus in the US is now nearly impossible.
