Nevertheless, inventiveness prevails. For autumn 2021, the collections embraced the new outdoor après-ski lifestyle, prepared for a new-wave Roaring ’20s, found stability in LBDs, and kept comfort at the forefront of enhanced knitwear. Crop Rotation
And the latest silhouette that has everyone talking is cropped jackets and shirts. These beautiful, midriff-baring outfits are a long cry from your youth’s tiny shirts. Sophisticated and elegant in a fuchsia pantsuit from Chanel, a menswear-inspired outfit from Peter Do, or an absolutely ladylike two-piece set from Emilia Wickstead, these short takes are reserved for rich ladies only.

Make It Midi
A long-standing fashion theory: Economic prosperity is symbolized by high hemlines, whereas economic downturns are symbolized by long styles. It was overwhelmingly the latter in the precarious year of 2020. The abundance of midi skirts that dominated the look books and virtual presentations for the fall 2021 season exemplifies this philosophy. Keep it Cozy
Cozy was the ideal adjective to characterize fashion in the previous year. For autumn 2021, designers are continuing along this route, but not in the manner you would expect—read: no sweats here. From a cream-colored wool jacket by Chanel to a brown shearling-lined coat by Chloé to a fuzzy hoodie by Christian Dior, our favorite brands have polished these casual looks by infusing them with couture cuts. While the materials are soft and the sizes are big, the shapes are much more streamlined than what is often associated with winter wear. Indeed, the term “cozy” has never looked so nice.

The Suit Coat
The tried-and-true suit has been reimagined. Traditionally, the style consists of a blazer and trousers; however, blazers and skirts have become popular as well. For autumn 2021, designers added a new element to the mix: jackets. Rather than fitted jackets, Givenchy, Jason Wu, and Proenza Schouler showcased palazzo, paper-bag waist, flared, or cropped trousers with elongated toppers. It’s a look that was designed to be worn and appreciated outdoors, which we welcome with open arms now that vaccination centers are open for business.

Finding Patterns
The future is bright, audacious, and ripe for attention. Fashion designers are on hand to deliver this message. Numerous designers, ranging from Thebe Magugu to Simone Rocha to Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton, showcased collections using crazy, beautiful patterns. Magugu, for example, drew inspiration from mysticism in the pattern of a sleek suit; Ghesquière brought the Louvre’s masterpieces to life; while Rocha opted for beautiful flowers in the Baroque style. Come autumn, we’re going to break free of drab and neutral tones and inject some color into our lives.

Back to Black
LBDs are timeless; no matter how many times we declare black is back, they will never go out of style. Obviously, black is the Fall 2021 Fashion Trends. They have not and will never go. However, the percentage does vary. During certain seasons, the omnipresent style is long and decorated with appliqués; during others, it is prim and plain. The trend of the season for autumn 2021 is short and extremely fitting. It’s all about the seductive miniskirt. From tuxedo gowns at Fashion East to babydoll silhouettes at Christian Dior, the general guideline is to flaunt your legs for days, sweetheart.
