Japan warns of the risk of a COVID-19 outbreak again

The above warning comes just a day after Japan recorded more than 1 thousand new cases of COVID-19 in a day. This is the highest level since August up to now.

Speaking at a session of the National Assembly, Prime Minister Suga stressed the need to monitor the situation with greater vigilance than before.

Previously, experts in this country also warned of a new wave of infections this winter. Because colder temperatures make people live in enclosed, poorly ventilated environments that are favorable conditions for viruses to spread more easily.

Japan is facing an intense re-outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, with record high numbers of new infections every day. Early infections, concentrated in the capital Tokyo, have now spread to other suburbs. There are areas where the epidemic clears monthly, now becoming new hotspots for the number of cases.

And more seriously, if in the first wave, cases that are mainly in the young population – who are better able to recover – are now beginning to report contagion among the elderly. This is a major concern as Japan is the country with the oldest population in the world.

Experts say that Japan has paid too much attention to protecting the economy and this is the main reason leading to the current situation. While many other Asian countries are also grappling with new waves of infection, Japan is in danger of being a prime example of what happens when a country refuses to change its response when a new wave of infections strikes.
