Berries have rarely looked as good as they did in the bowl Jennifer Garner held at the end of her most recent Instagram post. Our mouths began to water almost immediately upon first glance! And the how-to video enlarged our hearts even further.

“With vanilla ice cream, Mrs. Lantz’s Blackberry Cobbler. Mom declares it to be a potluck favorite, “Jennifer says as she introduces the Instagram video demonstration she and her mother, Pat, filmed. (In case you missed it, Jennifer recently took us on a home workout circuit with her fit 83-year-old mother, which was incredibly inspiring.)

To make the recipe, which comes from Jennifer’s “bonus mom,” Mrs. Lantz, they begin by rinsing 4 cups of blackberries and then “plopping them in the dish,” as Jennifer explains in the recipe she shares in the video’s caption. You’ll need a large casserole dish, such as this Le Creuset White Rectangular Baker ($50; surlatable.com). Drizzle 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract over the berries.

Then, Pat instructs Jennifer to combine 1 cup “normal” flour (also known as all-purpose flour), 1 cup sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1 egg.

Jennifer inquires of Pat as she cracks the egg into the cobbler topping, “Remember when you taught me how to crack eggs one-handed?” Which Pat readily admits, “That is not something I taught you; it is something you discovered on your own. I am still unable to do so. “

However, she can — and does — melt 6 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan to drizzle over the cobbler just before baking at 425oF for approximately 25 minutes, or until the berry filling bubbles.

“Serve with vanilla ice cream for the most dreamy result,” Jennifer concludes.

Jennifer recently demonstrated how she can also make said ice cream from scratch using an old-fashioned hand-crank churner! Here’s where to find a similar model, or you can opt for the “easy” route and purchase a pint of store-bought vanilla ice cream, or try our Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream, which you can whip up in your electric ice cream maker.

In any case, following Pat and Jennifer Garner’s lead the next time you’re in the mood to share a vintage summer dessert just like grandma made is a no-brainer.
