China discovered Covid-19 “superinfection” case

Reuters said that although the number of new Covid-19 cases on January 17 was less than 130 cases a day ago, in the past week, the number of cases of Covid-19 daily in China has risen to the highest level since 10 months ago.

According to China National Health Commission (NHC), 96/109 cases on 17/1 were local, including 72 cases in Hebei, 12 cases in Heilongjiang province, 10 cases in Jilin province and 2 cases in Beijing.

The number of new cases with no symptoms also increased from 79 on January 15 to 119 on January 16. NHC director Ma Xiaowi said that the Covid-19 outbreak in the Northeast was caused by tourists entering the country or imported frozen food contaminated with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. China is the only country that claims the SARS-CoV-2 virus can be spread through frozen food.

Especially, a man surnamed Lin, 45 years old, was identified as a “super infection” case in Jilin province on January 17, after participating in a health product marketing session that made more than 100 people sick.

This person, from neighboring Heilongjiang province, took trains and buses in three cities in Jilin province. Mr. Lam gave 4 presentations at 2 health clubs in the city. Princess Linh and Thong Hoa from January 8 to January 11, causing a total of 102 people to be directly and indirectly infected with Covid-19; including 79 people attending the presentations, 23 relatives or interacting with them.

Deputy Director of the Health Committee of Jilin Province, Truong Yen, said that people with the disease are mainly in the middle age and elderly, on average 63 years old and the oldest is 87 years old.

These figures make Beijing concerned about a potential wave of Covid-19 cases ahead of the Lunar New Year. The Xinhua News Agency reported that the capital of China will require foreign tourists to monitor their health for an additional 7 days after 21 days of medical monitoring.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in China is now 88,227, while the death toll is 4,635, according to Reuters.
