The above warning was issued while states like Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Kentucky had power and water outages in many places, while roads were congested. To date, these states have recorded at least 26 blizzard-related deaths because of the storm.

CNN on February 17 quoted Ms. Betsy Price, Mayor of Fort Worth (Texas), said her house was out of electricity and water for about 38 hours, and this situation is expected to continue. The snowstorm has knocked out about a third of all electricity production in the state. As of yesterday, more than 4 million people in Texas remain without electricity, including 1.4 million in the Houston metropolitan area. In City Dallas (Texas), about 25% of households have a power outage.
