“Now, Congress has certified the results. A new administration will be inaugurated on January 20. My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power. This moment calls for healing and reconciliation,” Trump said in a video statement posted on Twitter.
This remark marked the first time Mr. Trump admitted he would not have a second term for his administration.
Before that, the president’s Twitter account was locked on January 6, leaving him unable to write anything on social media for nearly 24 hours.
The President also condemned the riots that occurred at the headquarters of the US Congress on January 6.
“I wanted to start by mentioning the events at the Capitol. Like most Americans, I got angry at the violence, lawlessness, and chaos. I immediately deployed the National Guard to tell me. defend the building and expel the intruders, ” Trump said.
President Trump insists America is a country of law. He criticized the protesters who flooded the Capitol “defiling American democracy”.
“To those who engage in violence, you are not representing this country. To those who break the law, you will pay the price,” Trump said.
Mr Trump said the American people have just had a tense election and now is the time to “cool down and calm down”. “America must continue to function,” he said.
He explained that his electoral team vigorously pursued challenges with election results, because “my only goal in doing so is to ensure the integrity of the votes”.
The President of the United States claimed to have fought to protect the democracy of this country. He suggested reforming the electoral law to ensure that all voters’ votes count, “and so that the people still believe in future elections”.
Ending the video, Mr. Trump affirmed that “it is an honor to be your president in my life”.
Speaking to his supporters, Mr. Trump said “I know you are disappointed, but I want you to know that our wonderful journey is just beginning”.
The statement in the latest video shows a complete change of attitude compared to what President Trump has shown for months.
Previously, Mr. Trump tried to assert his victory in the November 2020 vote, accusing the election of fraud without any evidence.
Video of the president’s speech was posted shortly after Democrat leaders called for the removal of the president for the Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol.
