Russia’s second Covid-19 vaccine is in civil circulation

According to the head of the Russian Consumer Protection and Control Agency – Anna Popova, the EpiVacCorona vaccine, developed by the Agency’s Vector Center, has been in circulation, and the post-registration clinical trials are currently underway.

3,000 volunteers at 8 medical centers in 5 regions of the Russian Federation were injected. “Vector continues independent clinical studies in people over the age of 60,” said Popova. The volunteers were vaccinated, and everyone felt fine. This is a risk group, and it’s very important for these people that vaccines are also safe and effective.

The head of the Russian Consumer Protection and Control Agency reminds of the post-vaccination codes of conduct, which are contained in special leaflets intended for vaccinated persons. Those are recommendations given to minimize exposure during immune development.

According to Anna Popova, someone who was vaccinated today is not considered protected and you also need to take care of your health and protect yourself from infection during the duration of your immune development. A specially developed test system can be used to determine immunity after vaccination of a new vaccine.

Anna Popova said the vaccine has been brought to Moscow, Saitnt, Petersburg, Tula, Novosibirsk, Rostov-na-donu. The selection of these regions is due to the fact that in the regions of Rostov, Tula, Novosibirsk, the epidemiological process is currently most active in the territories outside the CBD.

Anna Popova noted that the drug could be shipped to the most remote regions of Russia thanks to the high storage temperatures. Its storage temperature ranges from +2 to +8 degrees Celsius. This allows the use of existing cold chain and all logistics provisioning. At the same time, first of all, there is a need to vaccinate teachers, health workers, and doctors in difficult-to-reach neighborhoods, as the provision of health care and education services to residents there depends on them.

In related developments, the mayor of the city of Moscow – Sergei Sobyanin wrote on his blog that from next week, Moscow will open registration for Covid-19 vaccination for new at-risk groups. These are the employees of the Multi-Function Centers, the employees in the commercial and service sectors, and culture.

Before that, on December 5, vaccination of the Sputnik-V vaccine, Russia’s first Covid-19 vaccine, developed by the Gamalei Center, has been started for doctors, teachers and social workers in Moscow. In less than a week, 20,000 people have registered in the capital and more than 6,000 have been injected.

The large-scale vaccination of the Russian people announced earlier by President Vladimir Putin will begin later this week. There are more than 150,000 people currently vaccinated.

Thanks to the development of a number of drugs and vaccines for Covid-19 as well as the preparation of treatment facilities and the number of preventive beds, before the second wave of Covid-19 epidemic, despite being very tense, Russian regions only strengthening limited measures to prevent epidemics, not closing and quarantining as before.
