Snowstorm in Texas: Be ready to take measures to protect Vietnamese citizens in case of need

On February 25, responding to a reporter’s question, regarding information about the situation of Vietnamese people in Texas (USA), Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Thi Thu Hang said: According to the General Consul Vietnam Consulate in Houston, USA, the record cold and snowstorm affected more than 29 million Texans.

The majority of families of more than 300,000 Vietnamese people living and working in Texas were affected such as rotating power cuts, loss of water for daily use, and difficulty in accessing basic goods.

According to official information from the local authorities so far, 4 people in a Vietnamese-American family have died from using a heating fire to cause a fire.

Vietnam Consulate General in Houston has actively contacted overseas Vietnamese contacts and students to grasp the situation, visit and encourage relatives and also have some forms of donation, financial support to help ensure living the life of the community.

Following the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Houston as well as the Vietnamese representations in the United States continue to closely monitor the situation, appoint staff 24/7 and coordinate with local authorities to take measures to protect citizens in case of need.
