Vehicle Attack at U.S. Capitol kills 1 officer and injures another

A man driving a car crashed into Capitol Electric police officers on April 2, then attacked with a knife, killing one officer and injuring another. The attack caused the Capitol building to be immediately sealed off and the Guardians were sent to guard.

Currently, the police said, the attack was not related to terrorism. However, the suspect was shot dead by police.

Share in the press conference, Ms. Yogananda Pittman, acting chief of the Capitol Police force, said the suspect drove a car into the police officers and even crashed into the security fence outside. He continued to get out of the car and grabbed a knife to attack the police officers.

“It is very heartbreaking to have to report that one of our police officers died after being seriously injured,” Pittman said.

The Capitol Police confirmed the officer who died was William “Billy” Evans, who was just 18 years old.

“It seems that the attack was not related to the terrorist act, but we will continue to investigate,” said Robert Contee, acting chief of the Washington City Police Department.

US President Joe Biden said he was heartbroken to hear about the attack and demanded that the White House flag be halved.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post quoted a source close to the investigating party as saying the suspect attacked the Capitol is named Noah Green (25 years old) and he is believed to live in Virginia.

But the police confirmed that they have not received information and identified the suspect, nor have the motive for the crime been identified.

Dozens of police cars were quickly arriving outside the Capitol. This image reminds many of the unprecedented riot that happened on January 6 when thousands of supporters of former President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol building to protest the results of the 2020 US presidential election. The riots have claimed the lives of at least 5 people including police on duty to protect the Capitol.

The roads leading to the Capitol are also blocked by police cars and security officers. Those still in the Capitol were told to stay away from windows as long as police announced the blockade was removed.

In fact, there are very few people inside the Capitol. Members of Congress were also absent from Washington on April 2 because members of the Senate and House of Representatives are both on holiday.

Dozens of Guardsmen who have been on the Capitol since January were also quickly dispatched. They are armed with heavy weapons and protective gear to stand as a security fence at the scene of the attack, as well as around the Capitol building.
