For the first time, Cambodia has recorded a three-digit number of new COVID-19 cases

Of the 105 COVID-19 infections in the community detected in the last 24 hours in Cambodia, there were 29 cases in the capital Phnom Penh, 8 cases in Preah Sihanouk province and especially up to 64 cases in the Chrey Thom border gate area of Kandal province, bordering Long Binh border gate, An Giang province of Vietnam.

Currently, most provinces and cities in this country have banned the organization of weddings or gatherings of people. The ban was made after two cases of illnesses from the capital Phnom Penh attended a wedding party in Kampot and Takeo provinces.

According to the Ministry of Health of Cambodia, if the number of infections in the community continues to increase as at present, within the next few days, Cambodia will not have enough beds to treat COVID-19 patients.

According to a press release by the Ministry of Health of Cambodia, 105 new cases are between the ages of 4 and 71, including Cambodians, Chinese, Thai, Malaysian and Vietnamese. Also on March 16, there were 88 patients recovered from the disease. As of the morning of March 16, Cambodia recorded a total of 1,430 cases of COVID-19, of which 818 had recovered and 1 died.

Meanwhile, the Khmer Times on March 16 reported, Cambodia’s Ministry of Health urges donors in the country to continue to contribute to the purchase of more COVID-19 vaccine, towards achieving the goal of vaccinating 80% of the population.

In December 2020, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen set a target to vaccinate COVID-19 vaccine for at least 80% of the population, equivalent to nearly 13 million people. As of the end of 2020, the Government of Cambodia has received donations from individuals and organizations in the amount of about 55 million USD to purchase vaccines. Although the Cambodian government has received about $ 80 million in funding to buy vaccines so far, the Ministry of Health still wants to mobilize more to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic from spreading rapidly in the community after “the community try on February 20 “.
