According to CNBC analysis based on Johns Hopkins University data, on October 27, there were about 73,240 confirmed Covid-19 infections. The number of new infections per day in the past week in the US is recorded at more than 71,800, a new record and up 20% from a week ago. Johns Hopkins University data also shows that the number of Covid-19 patients who are currently being treated at a medical facility increased by at least 5% in 45 states over the past week.
Admiral Giroir, a member of the White House’s Anti-Covid-19 Task Force and chief responsibility of the testing effort, said: “Cases are really on the rise in Most states and we know that because the number of people hospitalized for treatment is also increasing. Even though it is still tens of thousands lower than the number of patients required to treat in July. However, this number is increasing and unfortunately we are also seeing an increase in the number of deaths.”
Giroir admits increased testing is not the only reason for the increase in the number of people infected, even though President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated so and continues to take the pandemic lightly.
Admiral Giroir believes that the United States can control the SARS-CoV-2 virus if people follow measures such as keeping a safe distance, wearing a mask, avoiding crowds and washing hands frequently. But if Americans do not take preventive measures seriously, local and state officials may be forced to impose more “harsher measures” to prevent the epidemic from escalating.
